On the Way of Estimation of the Reliability of the Interferometric Pixels for Correct Phase Unwrapping in the DEM Generation

چکیده
Stage of phase unwrapping is of highest importance in the DEM generation by means of SAR interferometry. In the case of interferometric fringes merging in the areas of steep topography or in the case of poor quality of interferogram because of spatial/temporal/noise decorrelation the chances to resolve phase ambiguity across the entire SAR scene may become very low. We propose new way of local estimations of the quality of the interferogram, which allows to simplify stage of the phase unwrapping. The main feature of our approach is calculation of fringes spatial frequency for each pixel by means of two-dimensional FFT within small window around the pixel of the interferometric image accompanied by amplitude information. Our experience with processing the ERS interferometric pairs shows, that selection of the pixels with zero spatial frequency for further phase unwrapping allows to exclude practically all of the problematic pixels from the areas of layover/foreshortening, or low coherence. The map of valid pixels may be applied at the next stage for formal phase unwrapping. New technique of the phase unwrapping with a use of a map of invalid pixels described in a paper is being tested on the ERS tandem data obtained over Baikal lake area famous for the steep topography.

Comparison of Local and Non-Local Methods in Covariance Matrix Estimation by Using Multi-baseline SAR Interferometry and Height Extraction for Principal Components with Maximum Likelihood Approach
By today, the technology of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) has been largely exploited in digital elevation model (DEM) generation and deformation mapping. Conventional InSAR technique exploits two SAR images acquired from slightly different angles, in which the information of elevation and deformation can be captured through processing of the phase difference of the image...
متن کاملDelta-k Wideband Sar Interferometry for Dem Generation and Psi Using Terrasar-x
Wideband SAR systems such as TerraSAR-X allow estimation of the absolute interferometric phase without resorting to error prone phase unwrapping. This is achieved through the delta-k technique that exploits frequency diversity within the range bandwidth to simulate a SAR system with a much longer carrier wavelength. This benefits all interferometric applications including DEM generation and lan...

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) is one of the most sufficient technologies to provide global digital elevation modeling (DEM). It unwraps the interferometric phase to provide observations for phase-to-height conversion. However, the phase gradient has great influence on the phase unwrapping quality, thereby affecting the topographic mapping accuracy. Multi-look processing can i...

متن کاملOptical and Radar Data Fusion for Dem Generation
This paper presents a DEM generation procedure based on optical (SPOT stereo) and radar (InSAR, interferometric SAR) data. The first part of the paper is focused on InSAR. The second one is concerned with the integration of optical and radar data. Two levels of integration are proposed: the SPOT data can support the InSAR procedure (in particular phase unwrapping) and the SPOT and InSAR data ca...
